These approaches are effective evidence based forms of psychotherapy recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. Our team of psychologists are all chartered and registered practitioners and our CBT therapist is BABCP accredited. With only 16 BABCP accredited CBT therapists (March 2014 figures) in Cardiff and few EMDR practitioners in South Wales we can offer a much needed service.

At Capital CBT Cardiff we offer a treatment called EMDR. This is an active, empirically validated psychological treatment. It aims to resolve the emotional impact of traumatic events and treats anxiety-based disorders caused by trauma. EMDR treatment encourages you to attend to the emotionally disturbing material in short sequential sections in a safe environment with your therapist. By doing so, you are assisted in the processing of the disturbing memory and distressing physiological sensations.
This processing allows you to file the memory away in the same way other memories are stored, much like an efficient filing cabinet. EMDR follows an 8-phase structure and the duration of the intervention is tailored to your needs. It is estimated that EMDR generally takes place over 6-12 sessions.
