EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an active, empirically validated psychological treatment. It aims to resolve the emotional impact of traumatic events and treats anxiety-based disorders caused by trauma. As a result of these events a person can become ‘stuck’. EMDR treatment helps the brain to become ‘unstuck’. In doing so, you are assisted in the processing of the disturbing memory and distressing physiological sensations. This processing allows you to file the memory away in the same way other memories are stored, much like an efficient filing cabinet. It also helps to desensitise a person to the emotional impact of trauma memories.
